Laser scanning is the new technology for geospatial data capture. With faster data collection time, laser scanning is the way to survey high detailed objects that once seemed impossible to survey.

Used the world over for archaeological, heritage sites, plant as-built surveys and much more, laser scanning is now here in Ireland.

Coastway are the first company to purchase a Leica HDS 3000 laser scanner in Ireland, this ultra fast, high definition, reflectorless surveying instrument allows capture of potentially millions of points.

Captured data is stored as a point cloud, and this point cloud represents the object scanned as a 3 dimensional model from which traditional output such as AutoCAD is easily obtained.

One of the largest benefits that are derived from this technology is that the survey is completed remotely. This is especially useful in the case of survey of railways and associated buildings and infrastructure and in the case of buildings which are complicated in structure or very tall.
