The advantages of using laser scanning as opposed to conventional GPS, total station and photographs to investigate crime scenes and accident sites are many. Firstly the scene can be left undisturbed and saved as a 3D image before any investigation or removal of evidence occurs. Secondly the scene can be revisited numerous times to take measurements or view the scene from numerous angles.



Laser scanners are widely used by Police forces throughout America and Europe to investigate traffic accidents, allowing them to capture the scene and rapidly move the damaged vehicles from the highway and allow traffic to flow .
