Laser Scanning – Deep Manholes
Laser scanning is the ideal method of collecting large amounts of data safely without the need to physically enter deep chambers, reducing the risk to personal health and safety and loss of equipment. We have recently carried out deep manhole surveys combined with Ground Penetrating Radar surveys to provide the client a 3D plan of where utilities are situated below ground. The added benefit of using the laser scanner to survey below ground was the speed and the fact that no traffic management was required to close roads.
Applications:
- HDS 6000 Laser Scanner
- Phased base scanner with the ability to scan 500k points per second.
- Inverted Tri-pod
- Lower the scanner to between 3 and 4 metres
- Remote Access
- Control the scanner by cable or by wireless connection
Benefits
- Faster, safer, more accurate, and more complete surveys of underground chambers
- Non-contact, remote survey reduces potential health and safety risks and improves survey safety
- Reduces site visits needed for data capture
- Full-3D point cloud dataset
