In addition to the above examples we have been involved in other projects for which the laser scanner was able to produce results that were difficult or impossible by conventional methods.

These projects include a laser scan of the Famine Monument in Dublin, a laser scan of a helicopter and the survey of a floor for the purpose of checking vertical tolerance at minimal spacing. Images relating to these project are included here on this page.

Other applications of the laser scanner are in the law enforcement and forensics environment; consider the possibility of recording a car accident or crime scene in 3 dimensions so that it could be viewed in court. This sounds similar to presenting photographs or videos in court, the advantage of a laser scan is the ability to rotate the scene and take accurate measurements directly from it. The exact dimensions of the accident or scene are recorded as a permanent record.
