Coastway are the leading track and railway structure survey company in Ireland, We are able to provide a full geospatial engineering service to the railway industry.

Coastway are expert and experienced Rail Track Surveyors, and have carried out work for Irish Rail and British Rail.

Coastway utilise the latest in rail surveying technology to achieve millimetre accurate geo-referenced survey data to improve the accuracy, quality, and timescales for deliverables to clients.

Coastway are involved in the installation of track on several light rail projects, survey and laser scanning of existing rail track and infrastructure in the UK and Ireland.

Rail Geometry Analysis

Rail Geometry Analysis must be performed by experts in the field of Rail Track Surveying, to ensure that rail track is safe for use, and to collect data on the conditions for making calculations for any future works and maintenance, and for determining performance of the rail track.
Coastway combine Geospatial Engineering Expertise with the latest HD Laser Scan Technology, and advanced software to carry out works for clients, with minimum disruption to reduce costs, and to provide clients with accurate results in a short time frame.
Rail track can become misaligned due to movement from vibration of vehicles and changes in rail alignment, loading, changes in track at crossings and intersections, and variation in rail profile. Misalignment or degradation of rail track could result in derailment.

Tamping Correction Data

The movement of traffic on tracks over time causes gaps to form in the ballast structure below tracks, and this causes movement of the track, which is a hazard. A tamping machine is used to reposition the track.
Coastway utilise GPS, imaging, optical and advanced HD Laser scanning technologies combined with advanced software, and engineering and surveying expertise to survey and document railway track for maintenance and upgrading.
Coastway provide accurate results and deliverables in a fast timescale to optimise the Tamping correction process for the rail track. The collected data is used to process and analyse the condition of the track, and can be used to improve future works.

Infrastructure Clearance Analysis

For upgrades to existing railway infrastructure, and new proposals, Coastway carry out Infrastructure and Clearance Analysis.
Infrastructure & Clearance Analysis is carried out on existing and proposed railway infrastructure to calculate passing clearance between moving vehicles, passing clearance between moving vehicles and lineside walkways and structures, the positioning of datum markings and for gauge clearance.

Rail Design and Regression Analysis

Coastway use Geospatial Engineering Expertise combined with advanced software for Rail Design and Regression Analysis.
Regression analysis is carried out to maximise the performance of upgrades to existing and proposed rail tracks. Coastway utilise data from Regression Analysis and expertise in Rail Track Surveying to optimise Rail Design. Alignment, critical clearance points and criteria for fixity to limit movement are all calculated and analysed, to ensure the design of an improved rail track system.

3D Point cloud modelling

Coastway utilise High Definition Laser Scanning Technologies and Geospatial Engineering and Surveying expertise to produce High Definition 3D imaging of existing rail track and infrastructure.
The deliverables Coastway offer the Client are analysis, 3D Point Cloud survey, which can also be viewed through online client log in, 3D Building Information Model, and CAD drawings. The purpose of the Point Cloud Modelling may be for making records of the existing condition, future proposals, and monitoring of the condition of infrastructure over time.

3D Point Cloud Training for Cad Technicians

Coastway offer training for CAD Technicians on the use of 3DPoint Cloud information to extract data.
Coastway experts will provide full training and support, and advice on suitable software to clients that have their own specialists to analyse data. Staff will be trained on how to extract data, and produce deliverables from 3D Point Cloud models.
