Laser Scanning – Tunnels

Laser Scanning of tunnels is cost effective, as this reduces the time taken for the survey, can access areas that would otherwise be inaccessible, can be done in poor lighting conditions, and the results are more accurate than conventional survey methods.

Laser Scanning of Tunnels may need to be carried out for maintenance, to monitor structural and environmental changes and in order to produce models/drawings for the existing condition.

Coastway were commissioned to laser scan the Dublin Port Tunnel. The purpose of the exercise was to produce a 2D cross section every 5 meters to compare vehicle structure gauge. The results highlighted areas where modification to light fittings, traffic control lights and speaker systems and other tunnel furniture were required to allow traffic to flow unhindered. This survey included the collection of some 10 billion survey points a task itself impossible using standard survey methods.
