Environmental & Structural Monitoring

iantunnel.jpgCoastway Technical, part of the Coastway Group, is one of the leading Geospatial Engineering companies to offer comprehensive Environmental and Structural monitoring supply and service throughout Ireland.

The primary objective of Structural Monitoring is to detect potentially dangerous situations with respect to ground and structural movement as a result of construction activities.

The primary requirement for Environmental Monitoring is to record and document factors that affect environmental aspects of the area in and around the project.

These factors may have implications with respect to Health and Safety on site and the nuisance factor on and off site. Acceptable limits for each of the elements are stipulated and constantly monitored.

Consultancy ...

Coastway Technical offer a consultancy service for construction sites which require various monitoring procedures. Based on information supplied by the client we can produce a method statement outlining procedures and probable monitoring requirements. We offer a full service from pre-implementation through installation and analysis.

Experience ...

Coastway Technical have been monitoring sites throughout Ireland and have an experienced monitoring department with the capacity to monitor Structural movement, Pile Inclination, Vibration monitoring, Noise monitoring & Dust monitoring. All staff are fully trained and qualified in all monitoring procedures and installations. All monitoring requirements comply with recently introduced Irish Safety legislation.

Structural Movement Monitoring

Using a variety of methods and equipment specific to each site we establish base readings for comparison purpose. The monitored positions are surveyed as required and a comparison made with the initial readings. This allows an analysis of any lateral and vertical movement. It is advisable to monitor fixed structures such as buildings and railway track in the vicinity of any substantial construction projects.

Coastway offer a fully integrated monitoring system which uses Leica GeoMos
software which provides a highly flexible automatic deformation monitoring system that is able to combine geodetic, geotechnical and meteorological sensors to match the needs of your monitoring project, whether it is large or small, temporary or permanent.
Structural deformation monitoring is primarily used on dams, tunnels, bridges, high-rise buildings, construction, landslide and settlement detection (e.g. mining, rock falls, mountain slopes, subsidence).
Leica GeoMos enables automated surveys (e.g. continuous, automated measurements removing the need to place staff on site.
Leica GeoMoS stores all measurements and results in an open SQL database. The data can be accessed both locally or remotely, using Leica GeoMoS Analyzer, Leica GeoMoS Adjustment or third party software.
The Leica GeoMoS software is highly customizable allowing you to purchase only the functionality you require. The sensor license concept means that the software scales with the number and type of sensors you have connected. Additional functionality can easily be added later should your needs change.

Noise Monitoring

Using various Noise Monitoring devices, Coastway have the ability to measure and create reports of noise levels weighted to the human ear or recorded decibel levels. We can provide a base reading known as the environmental background noise levels required by An Bord Pleanala to set a noise threshold specific to the construction phase of a project.

We can then also measure and report noise levels created during construction to illustrate decibel level and effect on residents and businesses in the area. These measurements can be in the form of constant long term measurement or a number of instantaneous readings.

Vibration Monitoring

Required when Piling, Blasting, Rock Crushing, Train & Road traffic may effect property or people. With the use of Instantel Blastware products, Coastway Technical can provide, hire& training or undertake all aspects of vibration monitoring.

Our systems have audio and visual alarm systems, on site report printing removing necessity for computers, remote downloading and also a SMS alarm system should thresholds be breached. We also offer an air over pressure microphone to assess activity during blasting works.

Dust Monitoring

Using a ‘Bergerhoff’ Dust Gauge, we retrieve samples of dust particle activity around a site on a daily/weekly basis, samples are tested by a government authorised testing facility. Once the samples have been tested a report is generated which outlines an average milligramme level released during construction. A variety of substances such as suspended solids, organic carbon & phosphorus can be identified.

Inclination & Tilt Monitoring

Inclination monitoring is used when piling to detect slope zones of movement and establish whether movement is constant, accelerating, or responding to remedial measures. The core principle is to predict movement so that preventative measures can be undertaken if required. Monitoring also includes diaphragm walls and sheet piles to check that deflections are within design limits, that struts and anchors are performing as expected and that adjacent buildings are not affected by ground movements.
Monitoring the effects of tunnelling operations to ensure that adjacent structures are not damaged by movements in the ground.

Applications for horizontal inclinometers include:
Providing settlement profiles of embankments, foundations, and other structures.

Crack Monitoring

Using various types of gauges we can record structural movement where cracks appear. Electronic sub millimeter gauges can record the expansion and contraction of cracks over time this information can be plotted on a trend graph, the standard sliding rule gauge can be set on a flat surface or in and around corners. These consist of two individual plates overlapping each other with a cross-hair on one plate and a reference grid on the other. A dated record sheet is also supplied.

An electronic crack monitor, monitors the movement of a slab. A trend graph is produced and graphs will show the growth of the crack over time.
